The end of a rainbow holds a chance for you and me

I have taken to stressing instead of sleeping. It's causing havoc with the luggage under my eyes. Not good.
Hockey = my new loves.

Also slightly addicted to Farmville on Facebook. Yes, that is as sad as it sounds. I've spent the last couple of days obsessively checking to see if my crops need harvesting. It's tragic how desperately I need to get back to college.

Milan FW

Moschino: The looks were straight out out of Twiggy's closet. Loved it.

Prada: Surfer chic and a day at the office seemed to be the themes I gathered from the collection. Loved it. Although to be fair the models could have been wearing bin liners and I would still love it. It's Prada!

Emilio Pucci: Congratulations Peter Dundas, what a debut.

Marni: I was really looking forward to this collection. Disappointment unfortunately. I rarely like a collection which reminds me of pyjamas.

Four reasons why I am currently obsessed with Charles Anastase. Beautiful, non? S/S in London surpassed expectations.
Also loved Burberry Prorsum, wish they could lose that whole chav tag, the pieces were classic and chic (in parts).
Maybe the stunning Emma Watson can turn over a new leaf for them with her campaign.

Circumstances on the breaking back

So evidently Thursday is Christopher Kane day here at Elle of the Ball.
Just a few of my favourites from his highly anticipated Topshop Collection.

In other news, I'm highly amused by the fuss fashion bloggers are creating in the headlines over the last number of weeks. First there was last weeks' Kane epidemic and now people are going gaga over little Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie. Sure shes only 13 but if I was given the opportunity to miss school for NY Fashion Week believe me I would. This girl is a prodigy and perhaps not of intellectual means but of creativity and vision she is a prodigy. If she knows what she wants and has the opportunity, the norms of society shouldn't stand in her way.
It's her life, let her live it.

To Arthur!

The scars of all I'll ever know

So evidently, there has been a helluva a lotta fuss over criticism from Style Bubble and The Stylish Wanderer about this Christopher Kane creation. I'm sure you've seen it but heres a photo anyways...

The main issue was the fact that New York fashion week was literally littered with these t-shirts. Comments on this did not go down well with the readers, presumably because these readers had perhaps jumped on the Gorilla Dress bandwagon and were a little touchy about having their style 'dissed', so to speak.
Me? Well I personally liked this dress when it first came out, I thought it quite innovative and creative (what else would you expect from Christopher Kane?) and then I saw a photo of Rihanna and was put off.
Now I do agree, it is everywhere. And the imitations annoy me more, at least at NY Fashion Week there was the reassurance that the dresses were the real McCoy.
Nothing annoys me more than forking out a fortune only to see someone else wearing a copy that they paid a fraction for sure, mine will last longer and sure, I had it first but, mine was 200 smackers and she got hers for a tenner and I am SICKENED. Good day!

The broken clock is a comfort

Spent some time catching up on other blogs this morning.
Realized that I desperately need to get to a fashion show for S/S 10 instead of just looking at the photos on style.com or coutortore.com.
Cocosteaparty actually made me gasp! This image of the Rodarte show for New York Fashion Week is perhaps one of the most striking and captivating images I've ever seen from a catwalk show.

Now if only I had the connections to land me a ticket... (to the Balenciaga show in Paris 1st of October) :)

You suddenly complete me

Apologies for the lack of posting of late but the end of the summer has been quite busy for me. Helped my little sister pack for college, by which I mean removing all my clothes that she tried to steal from her case. Also had to organise a birthday party for a dear friend. Happy 21st! The sequined jacket took a well deserved trip out and I must say it was well recieved. It went a little something like this:

The brother came home today with a request from a teacher on a power trip to write a two page essay on respect. Evidently laughing while reading aloud doesn't go down well. I found myself at a loose end so helped compose this literary masterpiece. It began 'Cambridge English Dictionary defines respect as...' There were references to Aretha Franklin showing respect to the talents of Otis Redding by choosing to cover his hit 'RESPECT'. We compared the need for respect in cases such as husbands not hitting their wives and the need for respect for teachers by not laughing in their classes. Needless to say domestic harmony trumped contolling a sense of humour. We included quotes from the great comedian Tommy Tiernan and world renowned philosopher Rousseau. I think it will be the first and last two page essay my brother will get, from now on it's straight to detention for him.

White as Diamonds.

I have always loved the 30's and 40's style, and so I am unbelievably delighted that it has made a comeback. Especially since my wonderful granny is a firm believer in never throwing anything away. so me and my sister have raided her attic for all sorts of extraordinary vintage finds - for free! We nearly had a falling out over a cloche hat. Most recently admired on Angelina Jolie in the epic Changeling, cloche and flapper hats have come back with a vengence in the autumn/winter 09 collections.

Now sometimes cloche hats can go bad, ergo Katie Holmes.

And other times they look spectacular, when on the likes of Diane of course.

Anyway we came to the conclusion to share, will I be daring enough? Well perhaps, either way I'm a fan of this look. Off to endure some more Angelina in Gia. Enjoy your Sunday!

'Brain Candy' - 4.9.09

Well Ear Candy hasn't been really on the agenda this week. Like the good little student I am, I've been trying to tackle my reading list before I get back to college and actually have an excuse to say 'Ah sure feck it I'll just go to Sparknotes''
Anyway tried to get into Jane Eyre yesterday and it was almost impossible. Jane Eyre is my favourite of all the publications from the Bronte siblings but my god books are hard to read when you know you have to get through them.

I found the same problem with The Great Gatsby last year. Gatsby is a classic. I read that book every Christmas without fail, don't ask me why, I'm just odd like that. Last year when I saw it on the reading list for semester two I was initially thrilled. Finally I would have an excuse for sitting by the fire reading for twelve hours straight but, could I get into it? No, because I knew I had to.
Maybe it is some mental complex that some psychologist will tell me in years to come is the reason for my general weirdness, perhaps it's because deep down I'm a free spirit who cannot be told - a rebel without a cause if you will. But, most likely it's just down to the fact that reading isn't fun when you know that, once you finish the book there is not some deep sense of accomplisment or the prospect of a different outlook on this world, oh no, all that is waiting for you when you turn that final page is a five thousand word essay. No wonder I'm in no rush to finish.

And so I give you my Brain Candy - Books you must read before reading lists ruin them for you.
1) The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
2) Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
3) Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen
4) The Scarlett Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne
5) The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
6) The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath
7) Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
8) Ulysses - James Joyce
9) The Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
10) Madame Bovary - Gustave Flaubert

A little bit of listenin' - Glasvegas, Fleet Foxes and Passion Pit

A little bit of lustin' -
I need a bag for college and I think Roberto and I would be a perfect match don't you?
Ok yeah in all seriousness someone tell me how to block net a porter because I'm only taunting myself at this rate!

Soldiers make good targets

Sienna, are you ill? Stumbled across this image today on Just Jared and wondered what had happened to Ms Miller. For a woman who created a trend on her own terms this outfit is clearly lacking in the Miller magic. I have no issue with the blazer or the shoes for that matter but well the bracelet must go and well, so on.

While searching for clothing to fix Sienna I came across these->

I've never wanted anything more*

*May or may not be true.
